How Difficult Is It to Install a Ductless Air Conditioning System?

Ductless air conditioning systems are less complex in layout than standard central ACs because they do not require a ventilation network for the distribution of cooled air. They also use smaller units to do their job (multiple mini-air handlers rather than a single large indoor evaporator and air handler). This makes ductless air conditioning systems easier to install than their counterparts that use ducts.

But this does not mean that the installation work is easy. If you are interested in having a ductless cooling system installed in your home, you need to call on skilled and experience HVAC technicians to take care of the job, starting with finding the right sized unit and number of air handlers.

The ductless AC installation process

To hook up a home for ductless air conditioning, the technicians must first determine how powerful a system is necessary to cool down the interior without energy waste. They will work with the homeowner to decide how many indoor air handlers are necessary and which rooms they will go in.

The physical installation process usually requires a few hours, and starts with the HVAC technicians setting up the outdoor condenser unit that contains the compressor and the coil that will exhaust heat to the outside. This unit is similar to the ones used for standard central ACs and heat pump.

Then the installers will place wall mounts on the inside of the house where the air handlers will go and drill holes through the walls for the power and refrigerant lines that run from each air handler to the outdoor unit. The air handlers are placed onto the mounts, connected to the power and refrigerant lines, and secured in place.

For the final step, the installers charge the system with the appropriate amount of refrigerant and test all the air handlers to see that the system is working correctly and providing the cooling level it should.

When you trust this work to an experienced team, like the one at iNtelligent Air Services, you should have a ductless AC that provides your home with excellent, energy-efficient comfort for many years.
